Most vapes contain nicotine, even if the label says they don’t. When you vape regularly, you develop a craving that can only be relieved by vaping. Soon you find it hard to function without a vape and become dependent.
If you find yourself needing help, there are lots of places you can turn to, including:
- Booking an appointment with a local GP to discuss options for quitting vaping
- Visiting Western Health’s Live Free Breathe Free Smoking/Vaping Cessation Clinic
- Headspace who offers mental health support online, by phone and in person through headspace centres
- Quitline (13 7878) is a free, confidential advice and support service open 8am to 8pm Monday to Friday. Quitline counsellors are available via phone, live web chat, WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger or SMS
- Call Quitline on 13 7878

- Book a time for a Quitline counsellor to call you back

Download and share our vaping prevention posters and social media tiles
Melton City Council has created a series of posters and social media tiles with local, young people that you can download and share at your school, your local sporting group, online, etc. to spread awareness about the dangers of vaping (you don’t need permission from Council to share these resources).

Want Western Health and Melton City Council to deliver a vaping education session at your school?
Western Health, in partnership with Melton City Council, can provide vaping awareness sessions to schools for students in grade 6 and older.
In this session, presenters discuss what vaping is, the health impacts, vaping and the law as well as tips for avoiding vaping and supports available to quit vaping. The sessions are delivered by a community health nurses and a health promotion officer from Western Health together with youth workers from Melton City Council. In 2023, over 1200 students took part in a vaping education session.

Teachers of year 7-10 students have access to a range of vaping education resources designed to teach young people about the harms of vaping.
'Seeing through the Haze' is a free evidence-based, curriculum aligned, year 7-10 classroom resource, developed to allow students to use their voices for positive change in their school and local communities. Across three learning modules, students learn about the harms of vaping, industry tactics that spread misinformation, and the effectiveness of health campaigns to create change.
