Fun and interactive workshops delivered in school to support Grade 6 students with their transition into secondary school.

We know that finishing primary school and preparing for Year 7 can be an exciting but also nerve-racking time for many students. Each year, Melton Young Communities in partnership with the Melton Reconnect Program offers valuable school-based workshops for Grade 6 students transitioning into secondary school next year.

Our fun and interactive transition workshops focus on the following practical areas:
  • changes to expect in secondary school vs primary school
  • use of school lockers/locks
  • how to read secondary school timetables
  • time management/planning strategies e.g., tackling homework, establishing a healthy routine, mapping how to get to school etc
  • dealing with feelings of stress/anxiety
  • mindfulness strategies
  • dealing with peer pressure
  • social skills and tips for building connections
  • understanding the local services and support options available to young people

Workshops offer:
  • a 120-minute facilitated session in school delivered by Youth Workers
  • fun and engaging activities
  • full transition booklet for all Grade 6 students to take home
  • visual/audio presentation

Grade 6 Transition workshops will be delivered during Term 3 & 4.
