Help at home and supporting you in the community

Council offers a range of services that support the well-being of older people, people living with disability or a chronic illness, whilst providing respite and support to carers.

These services aim to assist eligible people to enhance their independence at home and out in the community.

Our services include:

Domestic Assistance
Domestic Assistance is usually provided in the home and includes:

  • General housekeeping, e.g. vacuuming and mopping, cleaning bathrooms and toilets, dish washing and making beds
  • Linen services
      

Other tasks can also include:

  • Preparing meals
  • Unaccompanied shopping (delivered to home by Council staff)
  • Bill paying (unaccompanied) 
      

Personal Care
Personal Care assists with activities of daily living self-care tasks in order to help our clients maintain appropriate standards of hygiene and grooming, including:

  • Showering
  • Toileting
  • Bathing
  • Grooming
  • Dressing and other non-nursing tasks 
      

Other tasks can also include:

  • Assistance with client self-administration of medicine 
      

Respite 
Respite Care benefits the carer as our staff provide supervision and assistance to the client while the carer takes a break.  The carer may or may not be present during this service.

Property Maintenance
We provide assistance with minor household repairs and modifications necessary to maintain safety and security. Services may include installation of handheld showers and grab rails, installation of ramps, installation of smoke detectors and battery replacement, replacement of light globes and reoccurring tasks such as pruning and spout cleaning.

Food Services
We operate a food delivery service, previously known as ‘Meals on Wheels’, delivering nutritious three-course or two course meal options to clients’ homes between Monday and Friday (including weekend meals). We provide a choice of meals and cater for special dietary requirements. In addition, we operate a centre-based meals program in our dining room from Monday to Friday.

Social Support Individual
Social Support Individual provides options for eligible clients who require support to access services in the community. This service may include: 

  • Visiting services
  • Accompanied services such as getting to and from community facilities, shopping centres, libraries and medical appointments. 
      

This service can be provided by either a Council volunteer or a member of staff if assistance is required throughout your outing.

Service Access

These programs are offered as part of the Federal Governments Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP) and the State Governments Home and Community Care Program for Younger People (HACC-PYP). They aim to support the independence, functional capacity and social participation of eligible people at home and in the community. Client contribution fees apply. In most circumstances, our services are not available to NDIS Participants.

Assessment is the gateway to receiving government subsidised home and community supports. The assessment service will work with client and carers individual circumstances, and issue referrals to relevant support services such as the Melton City Council.

Personal Alert Victoria (PAV)
Government funded personal alarms are available to eligible people and can be accessed through an assessment and referral process. To test your eligibility, please contact the relevant assessment services listed above.  

Access and Support

We understand that some of our community members may find it difficult to access home and community care services on their own due to diversities. Our Access and Support Officer is available to provide support and can be contacted on 9747 7315.
