Maternal and Child Health (MCH) midwife service model
Melton City Council’s Maternal and Child Health (MCH) service is continuing to look at new and innovative practices to increase service provision within the community.
Our current Maternal and Child Health model is delivered by registered general nurses and midwives who have additional qualifications in MCH.
To increase service provision, Council will also be employing registered midwives, who have completed at least 150 hours of clinical placement, for their Maternal and Child Health qualification, to work within the scope of practice of their midwifery qualification.
This means that for the home visit, as well as the 2-week and 4-week centre visits, you may be seen by a registered midwife.
These midwives will always have the support of working with, or access to, a qualified Maternal and Child Health nurse.
This model has been endorsed by the Department of Health and is part of local initiatives to increase MCH nurses and services to the City of Melton community.
