Disability Advisory Committee (DAC)
Melton City Council’s Disability Advisory Committee (DAC) serves as a key advisory body, providing guidance to Council on enhancing accessibility and inclusion for people with disability within the municipality. The DAC also identifies and addresses emerging issues that impact local people with disability, ensuring their voices are heard in decision-making processes.
Aligned with Council’s Disability Implementation Plan 2022-2026, the DAC meets bi-monthly and is chaired by a Councillor.
Key Responsibilities:
- Advise Council on accessibility issues and barriers
- Provide input on policies, projects, and infrastructure planning
- Review and give feedback on inclusion strategies
- Raise advocacy issues on behalf of the community
- Support initiatives that promote accessibility and engagement
- Monitor the progress of the Disability Implementation Plan
Committee Membership and Meetings: The DAC includes individuals with lived experience of disability, carers, and service providers from the City of Melton.
Objectives:
- Offer strategic advice on issues affecting people with disability, their families, and carers
- Assist in developing policies and action plans for access and inclusion
- Ensure Council services reflect the rights and needs of people with disability
- Act as a forum for disability-related discussions
- Promote awareness and understanding of disability issues
Role of the Committee:
- Support social policy and community wellbeing in Melton
- Guide Council on disability-related policies, programs, and services
- Encourage community participation and engagement
- Foster partnerships with stakeholders in the disability sector
- Contribute to advocacy, strategy development, and accessibility initiatives
- Serve as the primary advisory body on disability matters, ensuring inclusion remains a Council priority
