Road safety of infants and children
Safe Seats, Safe Kids – Child Car Restraint Fitting Checks
Anecdotal evidence suggests 70% of child car restraints are incorrectly installed or used. Child car restraints that are incorrectly fitted pose a serious safety risk to children travelling in those restraints.
This is why Council invites all parents and carers to book in for a free child car restraint fitting or safety check. Kidsafe Victoria in partnership with Neighbourhood Houses Victoria, with support from the Victorian State Government run regular restraint fitting checks at the following local venues:
- Bridge Road Children’s and Community Centre, 260-266 Bridge Road, Strathtulloh
- Stevenson House, 10 Stevenson Crescent, Caroline Springs
Bookings are essential. Parents and carers (including grandparents!) can book in a free child car restraint fitting or check by registering through Safe Seats, Safe Kids website.
Sessions can book out quickly so it is recommended that you sign up to receive notifications about future inspection days in the area.

Road safety for young drivers
L2P Learner Driver Mentor Program
L2P Learner Driver Mentor Program: L2P assists learner drivers who do not have easy access to suitable supervising drivers or a suitable motor vehicle an opportunity to go out with a mentor and hopefully gain the minimum driving experience of 120 hours.

Road safety for older drivers
The RACV program Years Ahead is a free one hour presentation that provides information and advice to keep older Victorians safe on the road and connected to their community. This includes how health impacts driving, vehicle and road safety tips, alternatives to driving and empowering older adults to be able to continue living rich and fulfilling lives. If you would like to hold a session at your local club or group, please contact our Road and Community Safety Officer on 9747 7200.
- VicRoads Older Drivers: download the Older Drivers' handbook, which is available in multiple languages and get other information from the VicRoads website
- RACV Years Ahead: A safe driving awareness session providing information and advice to groups such as senior citizens clubs, Probus clubs, church groups and retirement villages.

Road safety speed trailer
Melton City Council's 'Speed Awareness Trailer' is now on the streets. The trailer is used to alert drivers to the speed limit and their current speed. The speed awareness trailer will be placed on different local roads across the City each week to increase awareness of speed zones in local streets and around schools.
