Housing Character Assessments & Design Guidelines

House Rules, Council’s Housing Character Assessments and Design Guidelines, were adopted by Council at its Ordinary Meeting on Tuesday 13 October 2015

The project was undertaken to protect the valued characteristics and improve the design of housing in the City’s established areas.

This project follows on from work prepared as part of Council’s Housing Diversity Strategy ‘House Smart’ which was adopted by Council in May 2014.

This project aims were to:

  • Assess the established residential areas for their existing characteristics.
  • Inform the preparation of the design guidelines for the established areas.
  • Guide future planning permit applications.
  • Inform changes to the Residential Zone schedules within the Melton Planning Scheme.
