Online Planning Register

Council is required to keep a register of all planning permit applications received by Council. This register enables any person to check that a planning permit application has been lodged, the location of proposed land development or use and the outcome of any assessment of a planning permit application.

The online register is designed to save time and to make the planning application process more efficient and transparent. The online planning register provides information such as:

  • property details
  • proposal
  • application number
  • applicant
  • date lodged
  • status of the application
  • decision of the application

Current planning permit application files are also available for viewing between 8.30am and 5pm Monday to Friday at the Melton Civic Centre, 232 High Street Melton.

Conditions of Use

Melton City Council is the responsible authority for land use and development planning within the municipality in accordance with the Melton Planning Scheme. Under Section 49 of the Planning & Environment Act 1987 (the P&E Act) the responsible authority must keep a register of:

  • all applications for permits
  • all decisions and determinations relating to permits.

The Act requires the responsible authority to make the register available during office hours for any person to inspect free of charge. This online planning register enables our customer’s access this information 24 hours a day.

The Melton City Council must also comply with the Information Privacy Act 2000 (the IP Act) and this extends to public registers, such as under s.49 of the P&E Act, where Council must, so far as is reasonably practicable, ensure that there is no contravention of an Information Privacy Principle under the IP Act in relation to personal information held on public registers.

While the Online Planning Register is available to any person, it may be an interference with the privacy of an individual for a person to access this online planning register to do an act or engage in a practice that would contravene an Information Privacy Principle under the IP Act with respect to the personal information on the Register, including but not limited to, accessing the online planning register in order to identify and market products or services to a section of the register that meets a particular socioeconomic profile.

A condition of use of this online planning register is that you will not use the personal information in any manner that may amount to an interference with the privacy of an individual generally or to facilitate direct marketing to a property where an entry for that property does not show consent to receive direct marketing at that address specifically.
