Community Friend Program (CFP) - Melbourne City Mission
Melbourne City Mission (MCM) has worked for over 155 years across Melbourne and Victoria. We have 70 different programs and services supporting thousands of people each week. The people we work with come from all walks of life, cultures, and backgrounds.
One of the many programs Melbourne City Mission supports, is The Community Friend Program (CFP).
CFP is a friendship/social support program, which thoughtfully matches and supports friendships between volunteers and clients (participants) - people living with a mild to moderate disability and/or mental health condition. This includes physical, intellectual, psychiatric, sensory disability, acquired brain injury, and mental health. CFP are welcoming, understanding, discreet, open-minded, and caring towards everyone.
CFP has a strong emphasis on friendship, community and providing support to participants, whilst ensuring they maintain their independence wherever possible.
Monthly social groups are available to join – groups are supported by two regular volunteers, with up to six participants. Examples of social groups include; 10 pin bowling, cinemas, music, arts, and a variety of community activities.
CFP work within the Local Government Areas of Banyule, Darebin, Yarra, Moreland, Brimbank, and Melton. The program supports adult participants (clients) between 18-64 years of age.
During the pandemic, CFP continued the program and support of both Volunteers and Participants by encouraging contact via phone calls/Zoom/emails/social media.
If you are interested to join the program and wish to find out more – we would love to hear from you.
