The Plants, by Playable Streets

The Plants are new experimental musical instruments that combine organic matter and bespoke digital sensors developed by Playable Streets. For the first-time these plant-based instruments are available for the public to play and create new live compositions.

Swelling with textural waves and phasing rhythmic movement, The Plants will be unlike any musical instrument you have ever seen, heard or played. The Plants installation is open to everyone to interact with, explore, and make new collaborative compositions.

Animal Aerobics (Library Projections)

Have you ever wondered what a bodybuilding bird, a snake doing ssssstep aerobicssss, a panda doing pushups or a weightlifting wombat would look like? Well wonder no more, as these amazing animals and more come to life as large-scale projections on the front of the Melton Library & Learning Hub. These fantastic creatures were developed by Melton community members, and animated by artist Isobel Knowles.

About Isobel Knowles: Isobel Knowles is a Melbourne based award-winning artist and animator. Her multidisciplinary practice spans short film, interactive installation, cross-platform performance, music, painting, photography and illustration.

Reflection, by Playable Streets

It’s time to reflect, on a year, on a thought, on anything at all! Reflection is a space for people to reflect both literally and metaphorically and we need your help!

In this installation, we will hold up a mirror to the world around us and explore what it means to reflect. From the mirror funhouse to the cool still water, we will look down, look up and look inside.

Reflection is a large-scale interactive installation that invites participants to draw and write on brightly coloured mirrored acrylic panels. Reflection encourages participants of all ages to see themselves within the context of their community.

Drawing Machine, by Alex Gibson / Artbox

Drawing Machine, created by artist Alex Gibson, is an interactive digital installation that combines AI technology and traditional portraiture to create uniquely styled portraits of audience members in real time. Think of it as a photo booth with a twist!

About Alex Gibson: Alex Gibson is an award-winning post-digital artist with 20 years experience exhibiting in Australia, Europe and Asia. Alex works with interactive installations, found objects and the moving image that include elements of drawing, video and software art.

Occulting Light Pt 2, by Joel Zika / Collide Public Art

A series of illusionistic light sculptures littered throughout the lawn opposite the Melton library & Learning Hub.

A ghostly new work from artist Joel Zika and Collide Public Art floats above the green spaces of Melton Town Centre. Beacons of light appear to drift, lighting a path to guide and beckon visitors. The animated work manifest as delicate and ornate sculptures, each made of precious materials emanating a surreal and transfixing light.

This stunning new work features cutting edge holographic screens that will enthral visitors of all ages.

About Joel Zika: Joel is a lecturer working with 3D animation and projection art. His research explores the history of immersive media and those discoveries inform innovative virtual and public digital arts projects.

Over the past decade he has exhibited nationally and internationally. His works are held by the Gippsland Regional Gallery and countless private collections. Zika’s work recently featured in the publication ‘New Romantics – Darkness and Light in Australian Art’ alongside Artists such as Bill Henson and Jane Burton.

Additional family fun on Saturday

Melton comes alive on Saturday night Aerial Stage Shows, a Disco dance party, free craft activities, live music, photo moments, roving entertainment and family favourite, Becky Bubble!
