Artwork Statement
This project was a collaboration between local Melton South residents and artist, Candela Alconada. The project aimed to showcase residents’ pride for their local area, using vibrant and happy colours, patterns and designs. Residents characterise Melton South as down to earth and diverse, a place where everyone accepts and respects each other. The Melton South community are a diverse range of people that get along, like to meet new people, mentor each other, to learn, be inspired and kind. These community-driven designs depict the many aspects of life that make this place special. The mural was designed using a participatory process that allowed for residents to learn from a professional artist and from each other.
