Flowers in Places is a captivating visual art exhibition with a profound goal: to serve as a poignant reminder of the inherent beauty that surrounds us in our everyday lives. Martina Jurjevic harnesses her formidable design and visual skills to weave together seemingly disparate subjects into a tapestry of striking, vibrant imagery, characterised by an explosion of colour and a delightful sense of playfulness.
All artwork featured in this exhibition emerged as a response to the challenging and uncertain times of Melbourne's Covid lockdowns. These creations serve as a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and the enduring belief that, even in the darkest of moments, there exists something to be grateful for. In Martina's own words, she reflects upon her work, particularly highlighting a personal favourite: ‘Cactus Ice Cream.’ She adores the piece for its versatility, appreciating how it can be interpreted in a multitude of ways, inviting viewers to engage their imaginations.
Ultimately, Flowers in Places serves as a powerful invitation to its audience. It encourages viewers to seek inspiration and solace in the simplicity of ordinary things. Through this lens, we find the strength to navigate the unexpected and the unknown facets of our lives, reaffirming that beauty can be discovered even in the most ordinary moments.
About Martina Jurjevic
Martina Jurjevic is Melton raised, and now Cairnlea based, multi-disciplinary, emerging artist.
Growing up Martina has always been the creative child, constantly immersed in art and design. Her passion for creativity was nurtured by the constant support of her mother and aunt, both of whom shared her artistic inclinations from a young age. Their encouragement fuelled her determination to pursue a path in the world of art.
After high school, she made the decision to delve deeper into her artistic journey by enrolling in a graphic design program. Here, she was fortunate to be mentored by exceptionally talented professors who imparted their knowledge and expertise in the realm of digital art. This education served as the foundation upon which she would build her creative career.
A pivotal moment in her artistic journey occurred when she secured a job at a funeral home. Surprisingly, it was in this unconventional setting that she stumbled upon a wellspring of inspiration. She discovered a treasure trove of free-to-use graphics, which sparked the idea for her captivating series titled "Flowers in Places." These artworks were a testament to her ability to find beauty and life in unexpected spaces, even in the midst of solemnity.
