Melton City Council welcomes Level Crossing Removal announcement

Melton City Council has welcomed the Victorian Government’s release of concept designs for two more level crossing removals in the municipality.
The designs show new road bridges will be built over the rail line at Ferris Road in Melton and Hopkins Road in Truganina. New walking and cycling paths are also planned.
The Level Crossing Removal Authority is seeking community feedback to help refine the designs.
The City of Melton is one of Australia’s fastest growing council areas, with more than 440,000 people expected to call the City home in the next three decades.
While Council appreciates this significant investment, it is vital that these projects are designed to support population growth.
Council has advocated for two road lanes in each direction for the bridges at Ferris Road and Hopkins Road to ensure these critical projects meet current and future demand.
It is important that planned single-lane bridges are future-proofed for duplication to accommodate the City’s rapid growth.
Major construction is due to begin later this year, with the new Melton Station opening and all level crossing removals to be completed by 2026.
Feedback must be submitted by Sunday, 23 June.
