Melton City Council August meeting highlights

Several important items were considered at Melton City Council’s 26 August Council meeting.  Highlights include:

Recommendations for Mayoral Charity Fund

At the meeting, Council endorsed the recommendations for the 2024 Mayoral Charity Fund.

Council received 57 applications, with a total of 21 applications recommended for funding, utilising the entire $40,000 budget.

Local, not-for-profit community organisations and groups could apply for up to $2,000 to support the development or implementation of projects that will benefit the community.

The Fund aims to celebrate diversity, develop civic leadership, and pride, and encourage community participation and social connection.

Community Grant and Fund Program update

Council also received an update on the second round of the Community Grant and Fund Program. The Program was open for applications between 1 May and 20 June 2024, with fifteen applications recommended for funding, totalling over $63,000.In addition, Council also approved 48 eligible Resident Achievement Fund applications and seven New Group Fund applications.

Council and Wellbeing Plan, Annual Action Plan 2023/24 Year-End Report

The Council and Wellbeing Plan 2021-2025 sets out actions for Council to deliver to help meet the needs of its growing community.

Each year, Council produces an annual action plan responding to outcomes and strategies identified in the Council and Wellbeing Plan. Council’s action plan for 2023/24 had 62 actions, with 61 completed, and the remaining project well underway. Some highlights from the past 12 months include completing a review of the Environmental Enhancement Program, adopting the Western Plains South Green Wedge Management Plan, Melton Town Centre Revitalisation Plan and the Melton Weir Parkland Strategy, and expanding our Customer Care program to support ratepayers needing financial assistance.

Contracts awarded

Council also awarded contracts for the Taylors and Plumpton Road intersection traffic lights project, Weir Views Children’s and Community construction, Earlington Square Park Upgrade, Navan Park upgrade, and the Parks Development Program 2024/25 for Hillside Recreation Reserve, Blackwood Drive Reserve and Barwon Street Reserve. Programming and recycling processing.
