This project will help address the needs of children and families, including those from diverse backgrounds, in the area by providing a children’s and community hub comprising four 33-place kindergarten rooms, multi-purpose community spaces, maternal child health suites, a family room, a breastfeeding space, and additional professional consulting and office suites.

The Project was delivered by Melton City Council and contributed $7,500,000.00 and the Department of Education and Training funded $4,000,000 for a total project funding of $11,500,000.

The project was in two stages, with stage 1 delivering four, 33 place children’s rooms, play spaces, car park and associated amenities. This was completed in January 2023.

Stage 2 the delivered the multi-purpose community spaces, maternal child health suites, a family room, a breastfeeding space, and additional professional consulting and office suites and was completed by the end of June 2023.

February update

Two 33-place kindergarten rooms have opened at Thornhill Park Children's and Community Centre in time for the 2023 kindergarten year.

 

The state of the art kindergarten provides inclusive, high-quality, play-based preschool programs for three and four year old children in Thornhill Park and surrounds.

 

With the kindergarten operational, construction continues on the balance of the centre, which will provide Maternal and Child Health Services, a family room and breastfeeding space, consulting space, and a variety of community programs and activities.  

September update

Rockbank Murray Road Children’s and Community Centre will now be known as Thornhill Park Children’s and Community Centre.

Due to delays getting construction underway the centre will be delivered in two stages. Stage one being the kindergarten (x4 children's rooms and play space) which is anticipated to be completed in time for term one 2023.

The balance of the centre being the community spaces, associated amenities and maternal child health offices’ will be delivered by early 2023.

Council will continue to provide updates as the works progress.

August update

The underground services and all raft slabs have been poured for the entire centre and are now complete. 

Stormwater system is nearing completion, works took a bit longer than expected due to the amount of rock removal required.    

The contractors have started work on the structural steel for the kindergarten rooms.

  • Structural steel framing to roof, plant platforms
  • Install timber roof trusses and beams
  • Install fascia’s/gutters/downpipes
  • Install metal roof sheeting
  • Install roof access system
  • External wall framing
  • Install windows
  • Install feature brickwork
  • Install internal wall framing
