MacPherson Park Recreation Reserve new grass oval
Council committed to the construction of a new grass oval at the MacPherson Park Recreation Reserve as part of the 2020/2021 Council Budget.
The new oval will support the growing demand for grass ovals to support junior and senior, men’s and women’s participation in cricket and Australian rules football.
The project was required as the existing oval had poor drainage, unsatisfactory lighting, a rough playing surface and was not the required size.
Council awarded the contract to McMahons Pty Ltd on Monday 21 December 2020 for the construction of a new grass oval, entry road and sports field lighting. The subcontractor for the sports field lighting was Bewired.
The oval construction was completed in May 2021, and for the following five months the grass was given time to establish.
Melton Cricket Club has commenced preparation of the turf wicket, and if COVID-19 restrictions allow, cricket competition is expected to commence in November 2021.
Project value is $2,400,000.
