Light-Up Lake Caroline

  • Project value$750,000

Lake Caroline is an important part of community life providing the public with a place to gather, play, exercise, or to just sit and admire the scenery or simply feed the array of birdlife that inhabits the Lake.

The Lake has a perimeter of approximately 1.9km with a pedestrian pathway its entire length which provides an ideal attraction for those in the community wishing to walk.  The perimeter of the Lake is zoned into areas such as, promenades, parklands and cycle/pedestrian walkways.

This project, Light-Up Lake Caroline, responds to an identified need and intends to improve community safety and increase confidence to make better use of local public space.  Good lighting will make Lake Caroline's paths visible and inviting at night, encourage people to use and activate the space and assist in natural surveillance.

The installation of lighting around the Lake Caroline pedestrian pathway commenced in September with Stage 1 of the project. Work has included trenching and installation of the electrical conduits, boring of light pole footings and pouring of concrete for the footings. Sections of pathway are being cordoned off to allow works in that section. Contactors will begin putting light poles in place in the coming weeks, indicating that work is nearing completion at the following locations:

  • Eastern Parkland
  • Western Parkland
  • West Promenade Extension
  • East Promenade Extension
  • Garretty Road Connection.

As Council progresses to Stage 2 the site compound will be relocated from the north east corner of Lake Caroline to the Western Parkland area alongside Caroline Springs Boulevard on Friday 16 November.

Stage 2 will continue the work on the residential side of the Lake at the following locations:

  • Residential pathway
  • Western Parkland

Stage 2 will commence on Tuesday 20 November and all in-ground works will be completed by the end of December 2018 with light activation to follow in January 2019.

Council appreciates your patience as we undertake these works which will enhance your experience in using the Lake.
